Karla Dunn, QMHS
“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
About MeHi, I’m Karla, a Therapeutic Support Specialist/Case Manager.
I believe people are much stronger than they often realize, and that even after difficult experiences, it is possible to rebuild your life and create a better future.
My goal is to meet each client where they are—not where I think they should be. Everyone’s needs, experiences, and circumstances are different, and I believe meaningful support begins with listening, understanding, and creating a space where you feel safe, comfortable, validated, and free from judgment.
I have spent the past 10 years working in the social work field with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances. For approximately six of those years, I have worked closely with survivors of domestic violence, abuse, human trafficking, stalking, and other forms of victimization through shelter and court/legal systems. This work has become a particular area of passion and specialty for me.
I am also passionate about mental health advocacy, social justice, and helping people access the resources and support they need to move forward. Whether someone is navigating a difficult life transition, feeling overwhelmed by multiple challenges, rebuilding after trauma, or simply unsure of where to begin, I want you to know you don’t have to figure everything out alone.
What I tend to focus on
-
I believe people are often stronger than they realize. I enjoy helping clients recognize their strengths, find their voice, and become more confident in taking charge of their own lives.
My goal is not to make decisions for you, but to help you develop the confidence and knowledge to make informed decisions for yourself. I want clients to become increasingly comfortable speaking up, advocating for their needs, recognizing their own abilities, and taking meaningful steps toward greater independence.
-
Supporting survivors is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. My experience includes working with individuals affected by domestic violence, abuse, human trafficking, stalking, and other crimes within both shelter and court/legal settings.
I strive to provide a safe, validating, and empowering space where survivors can feel heard and understood while working toward greater independence, confidence, safety, and well-being. I believe that what someone has experienced does not have to determine what their future looks like.
-
I have extensive experience helping clients identify and connect with resources they may not know are available within their communities. This can include assistance with housing, financial needs, utilities, food, employment, healthcare, legal services, victim compensation, mental health services, and other community supports.
I believe knowledge provides confidence. When clients understand their options and have access to the right resources, they can begin building a stronger foundation for moving forward and advocating for themselves.
How I Help
My approach is both structured and flexible, depending on what each client needs. I believe in meeting people where they are and recognizing that there is no single path that works for everyone.
Listening and understanding always come first. By taking the time to understand your experiences, concerns, strengths, and goals, I can work alongside you to identify practical steps and solutions that make sense for your situation.
I believe client care should always be a priority, which is why I value collaboration. I can be supportive and gentle while also being honest and direct when that is what will best help a client move forward. My role is to walk alongside you, help you identify your options, connect you with appropriate resources, and support you as you build confidence in your own ability to advocate for yourself.

More About Me
Outside of my professional work, music is extremely important to me. I truly believe music is powerful enough to change the world. I also love animals and enjoy spending time with my pets and the people who are most important to me.
I enjoy hiking and appreciating the beauty of nature, and fall is my favorite time of year. I have also enjoyed writing poetry for many years, which gives me another creative way to express myself and connect with the world around me. I’m a seafood and Chinese food enthusiast, too.
